Call To Action 2

I just had to post this because of it's title. It's one of the first things I thought of when I read this weeks Assignment Sheet. :)

"Call To Arms"
by Angels & Airwaves

There's a little black dark scar tire divide
This is it, can you hear me?
Have you ever felt a shattered heart buried alive?
You can do almost anything
There's a little red bridge with the view of the sun with a lake
Recommends such a setting sight
And the thousands of stars come out thousands of times
We can go, only if you believe. Only if you believe.

Do you feel like you've lost everything you can lose?
This is it, can you hear me?
When you cry do your tears ever chill the room?
Calling out every moment of need.
Do you ever lay awake with a look in the eyes?
Oh God, if a wish is too big to deny
I will offer a line, and it's ready for use.
Let me know, are you ready for me?

I'd like to say that you're my only fear
And when I dream, it slowly disappears
And when I wake, I'm right here by your side
To feel your heart beat in and out of time

When the storm brings rain, snow, fate of all kinds
You can feel almost anything
When the day seems to melt, fall flat in the night
You can feel almost anything.
When you can't get up, you gotta get up and try
This is it, can you feel me?
When the bombs come down, you will make it alive
If you only, if you wanna believe.

I feel your heart

I'd like to say that you're my only fear
And when I dream, it slowly disappears
And when I wake, I'm right here by your side
To feel your heart beat in and out of time

Call To Action!

This is the front and back of a 5x7 postcard that is a call to arms against Human Trafficking. The front of the card has a very simplistic look and feel to it. The back of it has several layers of information.

The images are kinetic and conveys a certain urgency. Human Trafficking is an issue that, I feel, people don't really think about when it comes to social issues. Mostly people tend to focus on poverty, hunger, war and other more highlighted issues.

This postcard doesn't really do much to inform the viewer about the in-depth details about Human Trafficking. It rather redirects the viewer to the what the postcard is actually trying to convey... the website that will inform the viewer to all the details of Human Trafficking. The website offers a lot of information regarding what Human Trafficking is, Resources, Preventative information, Newsletter information and more. It's a very informative site and the postcard is thematically connected to it from a visual perspective.

Description - Verbal (for a visual medium)

Films are an integral part of our society. It's an industry that never sleeps and one that is churning out product year round in various forms. Be it, theatrically released film, straight to DVD (or rather Blu-Ray and/or HD DVD), or released straight to subscribable cable television companies. Films are a mainstream form of entertainment for the American people. However, a lot of times, the most simplest element needed for the creation of these high octane blockbuster epics goes unnoticed; the script.

Words on paper, written by some of the highest paid writers in any industry are the blueprints of films. I think it goes without saying that without scripts, there would be no Hollywood. As evident in the recent Writers Guild of America strike that took place, the written word is by far the most influential and important aspect of the entire movie industry.
So, how good do these writers have to be to have their verbal offspring jump from paper to celluloid? Well, in my opinion, the better movies out there are the direct products of better writers. Their scripts have to be... descriptive.

Executives from all of Hollywood's heavy hitters, need to feel like the script they are reading is good enough to be made and good enough to make money. I'd say the one thing that gets that script greenlit, is its ability to portray the film through words. Clear and concise, the script needs to describe how the characters of the film look, think and more importantly feel. The words must immediately begin their journey inside the reader's head to help that reader visualize the words. The words must describe everything that is important or part of the story well enough for the story itself to take on a new meaning.

Scripts, whether they be for films, television shows or plays, are an element that needs to be as descriptive as possible for the project to come to life.

The Art of Rob Gonsalves

A master of magic realism and illusion, Rob Gonzalves gives life to breathtaking images of landscapes, buildings, horizons and more. His works entail the morphing of different forms of imagery right before your eyes! His paintings are extremely imaginitive and detailed and captivate the attention of any audience. The first piece of his that I ever came across is entitled "The Sun Sets Sail", which is simply a beautiful render of a bridge morphing into Old World sailing ships. The magic involved in this artistry is just masterful. Gonsalves does an amazing job in creating everyday activities and adding his magical touch to transform the image into... quite plainly, magic.

Gonsalves has exhibited his works in New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and other distinguishable places. And many of his works can be found at online venues.

Project 4orty 5ive at Fletcher's on Feb. 23rd!

Project 4orty 5ive, a local, all Indian rock band, will take the stage at Fletcher's Bar in Baltimore, Maryland on Feb. 23rd. Thrilled to open for the headlining act, a much bigger regional band, the excited members of Project 4orty 5ive are anticipating their best show yet.
"We're ready to just rock out and have a good time doing it" says lead singer Haseeb Majid.

The band has been on the local music scene for a few years now and have been part of the Emergenza Music Festival and have played at various venues including the Eight By Ten, the Brass Monkey and college crowd favorite, the Recher Theatre in Towson, Maryland.

The ever enthusiastic group takes pride in showcasing their versatile songs that are centered around a host varying circumstances. Their songs delve deep into the realm of substance abuse, self realization and even the arena of social politics. "I wanted to put together an all Indian rock band to show that the Indian community can be proponents of this particular music genre, which is very, very rare," says rhythm guitarist Gabriel Nanan, "as well as to have a message in our music that will resonate with people."

Project 4orty 5ive plays Fletcher's Bar in Fells Point, Baltimore on Saturday evening, February 23rd at 7:30pm. Tickets are $10, and to see a different kind of local rock band, it's well worth it.

Inspiration 2

Well, I already posted something that inspires me, but I just remembered a story I read a long time ago and I just had to add this...

The Power of Prayer

One day a father and his baby son were driving along a busy road. The baby was in his little baby seat in the back of the car and the father was confident his son was secure and safe. While in the middle of passing through a very large intersection, something happened to the back door of the car and it flew open, flinging the baby seat onto the street in the middle of the intersection! The father, looking behind him and seeing his son on the street slammed on his brakes and saw that a car was headed right towards his son! He immediately screamed out "God, don't let that car hit my son!" and leaped out of his car in the middle of the intersection and started running for his boy. The car that was headed towards the baby, screeched to a halt, inches away from the baby's head. The father then grabbed his crying son and made sure he was alright. He noticed the driver in the car that had just stopped in time, panicking frantically. He slowly walked over to the driver's window and tapped on it. The driver, still shaken up from what had just happened, slowly opened his window. The father then said, "Calm down sir, it's okay. My son is alright. You stopped just in time." The driver, slowly looked up to the father and replied, "You don't understand mister... I didn't see your son. I never once touched my brakes".

Inspiration... to change the world

If I had my own world, I'd build you an empire...

If I had my own world
I'd fill it with wealth and desire
A glorious past to admire
And voices of kids out walking dogs
Birds, planes, trees and cars
If I had my own world
I'd love it for all that's inside it
There'd be no more wars doubt or riots
There'd be no more police, packed parking lots
Guns, bombs sounding off
If I had my own world
I'd build you an empire
From here to the far lands
Spread love like violence

Let me heal you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices, sing back louder

If I had my own world,
I'd show you the life that's inside it
The way that it glows when you find it
The way it survives with it's families, friends or its enemies
Let's make this a new world
I swear you can go if you want to
I know that you have that within you
Inventing the first clean and useable
God's greatest miracle

"Secret Crowds" written by Tom DeLonge of Angels And Airwaves
from the Universal/Island Records album "I-Empire"

These lyrics are from the song "Secret Crowds" by the band called Angels and Airwaves. Being in a band myself, I can appreciate the value of the different elements needed to successfully convey emotion through one's own music. I'm lyricist myself and I tend to sort of listen to the lyrics of a song before anything else. And it's been a while since I've come across a band that has made an incredible impact on me.
To me, the lyrics, written by frontman Tom DeLonge, are as meaningful as they are profound. Each one of his songs convey some sort of story, or stand on a certain issue. One song can be politically motivated, speaking to the atrocities of war, while another can be a personal revelation of growing up in a broken home. But the one element that ties all of their songs together is the feeling of hope. Hope really is bursting through these lyrics in each and every one of their songs.
I first discovered them through their debut album "We Don't Need to Whisper", released in the summer of 2006. Along with the music itself, the artwork for the entire album sleeve captivates me to no end. You would never expect to see the combination of celestial imagery with World War II planes and images. It just seems that the motivation behind this is sort of telling us that we as a human race shouldn't be doing what we're doing to each other in the aspects of war and turmoil, when placed in a larger, celestial context. Because when it all boils down, in this Universe, we only have each other.
All the elements needed to create something that people can listen to to be inspired by and feel a sense of unhindered hope is, I feel, present in the music of Angels And Airwaves.

What's a manifesto?

si1pa: what's a manifesto?
