From Comic Pages to Silver Screens

The first superhero to get the more mainstream and modern Hollywood treatment was Richard Donner's "Superman" in 1978. Since then such notable characters as Batman, Spider-Man and the ever popular X-Men have ended up on the big screen. Hollywood has definitely found a rich source material to rely upon to garner high grossing blockbusters. And each new superhero movie seems to raise the bar on films based on such beloved comic book characters. I love the Super Hero movies, and in an intellectual way, I look at super heroes as the modern myths of our times. That said, I almost wish they would stop focusing so much on the origin of each character in each new film. One of the reasons I love Tim Burton's Batman is that when the movie starts, Batman already exists. We don't waste 2/3 of the movie learning something any schoolkid knows, and instead get a new and interesting story.

I feel the same way Mike. Superheroes are the "Greek Gods" of our society and times. And I also attribute all the part 2's to better than the first films because the first films do tend to be origin stories. Just look at Spidey 2, FF2 and of course... The Dark Knight! (Although Batman Begins was really good).

catwoman didn't make the list? or ghost rider? there is a bit of over saturation in the market as hollywood tries to suck the last bit of creativity from a once untapped resource. i still hold out hope that one day hollywood can make a decent video game adaptation. super mario brothers was a bit of a letdown.

A bit? Super Mario Bros. sucked man! (in my opinion) I haven't seen Resident Evil 3 yet. I heard it was pretty good.
